At this point, a prolonged stalemate is the only outcome that would not be damaging to American interests. हाँ , असद के बचने से तेहरान को लाभ होगा जो कि इस क्षेत्र का सबसे खतरनाक शासन है। परंतु हमें याद रखना चाहिये कि विद्रोहियों की विजय से दुष्ट तुर्की सरकार को बल मिलेगा तथा जिहादी शक्तियाँ शक्तिशाली होंगी और असद सरकार का स्थान उत्साहित और ज्वलनशील इस्लामवादी ग्रहण कर लेंगे। संघर्ष के जारी रहने से पश्चिमी हितों को उतनी क्षति नहीं होगी जितना कि उनके सत्ता प्राप्त कर लेने से। शिया और सुन्नी इस्लामवादी एक साथ मिल जायें इससे बेहतर यही होगा कि हमास जिहादी हिज्बुल्लाह जिहादियों को मारें या फिर इसका उलट हो ।बेहतर यही हो कि दोनों ही पक्षों में से कोई विजयी न हो।
